Chapter 63.1 - Side Story 4: The Madame’s Blissful Moment
Sasha looked down at Callis as he quietly slept on her lap while she stroked his head. She enjoyed the fresh feeling of his slightly rough hair that was completely unlike her own. Although Callis usually pampers her like this, this was the first time Sasha was able to pamper him in return.
(C- Come to think of it, since Mint and Basil are here, Mother-in-law and Laurier might come here and find us like this.)
Although she felt a little regret at this late hour to only now realize that possibility, that feeling slowly went away as she gazed at Callis’ face.
(My Lord, you look so tired…)
Callis had tried to hide it, but she could see the dark circles under his eyes. She hadn’t realized until now, but recently, Callis had been spending every second of his free time with her. Callis was doing his best for her and their family. Without neglecting his work, he did his best to spend as much time as he could with them.
“You’re working so hard for my… no, for all our sakes…”
Callis was always doing so much for her and Laurier. From the sweets he’d make for them to enjoy, to the little things he’d do every day to bring them happiness.
(He even stayed by my side the whole time I was in labor with Mint and Basil.)
She had felt a sense of security that was wholly absent when she was giving birth to Laurier. This time, Callis was by her side and worrying about her. Furthermore, when Mint and Basil were born, he shed tears and thanked her so much for giving birth to them.
(My Lord… I should be the one thanking you…)
Callis had told her he was so thankful that she had brought two new lives into their family, but Sasha wanted to say the same. It’s thanks to Callis that she was able to give birth to a beautiful son and daughter. Thanks to him, she was able to give birth to the children she so dearly wanted. She was so happy and grateful to him. Mint and Basil were the fruit of their love. His words had made her embarrassed, but so joyful at the same time.
She looked towards the new newborns by her bed. Precisely because she wasn’t able to act like a Mother during Laurier’s infancy, she wanted to do whatever she could for them. She was so grateful to Callis and the nursemaids for accepting her willful request.
“My Lord… I love you so much…”
Sasha whispered while stroking Callis’ head. Because he’s sleeping, although she was a little embarrassed, she was able to say those words aloud. She still felt too shy to say them aloud while he’s awake, even though Callis so regularly says them to her. The truth is, she wants to say words of affection like “I like you” and “I love you” to him regularly, too, but whenever she thinks to, she always gets flustered and never manages to get the words out.
(Once things have calmed down, I want to share these feelings with my Lord…)
With these blissful thoughts in mind, Sasha continued to happily watch Callis’ sleeping face and gently stroke his head while he rests.
