Chapter 229 Trying To Pull One Back
"That was a nice penalty but it was a risky one too, I\'m just glad he managed to put it away and now we\'re just a few steps closer to winning this match." The goalkeeper muttered.
<You guys have a clear advantage but don\'t let your guard down>
\'I know, you don\'t have to remind me of that every time.\'
<I\'m just making sure that you keep it in mind>
"I want to say that the game is pretty much sealed but there\'s still a lot of time left and two goals aren\'t really much to come back from with the time still left in the game," Jim said.
"Unique FC can either enter defensive mode to keep their two-goal lead safe or they can keep up attacking as they are doing and try to get a third goal, if they start playing like they\'ve already won the match, things might not end well for them but I don\'t think they\'ll do that." Steve articulated.
"The German side has to wake up from their slumber and do something quickly or they\'re going to lose this one," Jim said.
The match had already resumed and so far Wolfsburg were still with the ball, they were doing everything possible to make sure that they didn\'t lose the ball to Unique FC.
"They are finally keeping possession of the ball for longer periods, that\'s a good sign," Jim said.
One of the midfielders quickly sent the ball flying toward Kendra but Martinez was close by and quickly rushed toward the area to engage the striker in an aerial duel.
The defensive midfielder won the aerial duel and sent the ball flying toward Roland with a headed pass but before the ball could get to Roland, it was stolen by Michael Anderson who quickly got hold of the ball and quickly zoomed past the left back heading toward the edge of the box.
"Nice interception from Michael and he\'s in a really good position to do something meaningful now," Steve said.
The winger knew that it was only a matter of time before Roland caught up to him and apart from that, the center-backs would also stop him if he didn\'t do something or pass the ball quickly.
Just as he got the ball into the net, he sent it flying toward the bottom left side of the goalpost.
"Michael!"
Dave was quick to dive toward the ball with his right hand stretched toward it, the ball ended up hitting his right arm before rolling off toward the right but that wasn\'t a problem as Luis Roberto had things under control there and cleared the ball as soon as it touched his feet.
"Nice save from Dave as always and the danger has been averted, that was a close one," Steve said.
"What does it take to score against this guy?" Michael said before he let out a sigh and began to head toward the ball.
The match had just entered the sixtieth minute and things weren\'t looking good for Unique FC at the moment as Wolfsburg were currently leading a counterattack toward their goalpost after a failed attack from them.
The attacking midfielder quickly sent the ball to Michael who was quickly racing down the right wing with Roland hot on his trail.
The winger received the ball and paused to allow Roland to zoom past him, and once the left back realized that and paused, he zoomed past the left back and sent the ball to Kendra whom he had created a chance for on the left side of the box by keeping Roland at bay.
"This could be their chance to pull one back!" Jim exclaimed.
\'This doesn\'t look good.\' Dave said subconsciously.
The striker was about to send the ball flying toward the goalpost while Dave was wondering if he would be able to stop a powerful shot from that close distance when the striker was brought down under a challenge from Martinez right inside the box.
"Oh, that was a horrible challenge."
The referee blew his whistle before he quickly made his way to Martinez and showed him a yellow card.
"He could have gotten a red card for that challenge but the referee has decided to be less extreme and it doesn\'t look like Wolfsburg will complain, they\'ve been given a chance from the penalty spot to pull one back." Steve expressed.
"A penalty kick, oh dear," Dave muttered.
Kendra stepped up to take the penalty kick with the other players outside the box.
The player had his gaze on the ball before the referee blew his whistle and as soon as he heard it, he slowly took three steps backward.
"This is their chance, missing this is not an option," Jim said.
The striker stopped and stared at the ball for a few seconds before he quickly raised his gaze and closed up on the ball to send it flying toward the goalpost.
The ball was sent flying toward the right side of the goalpost and this time, Dave ended up going the right way but it was no use as the ball ended up making slight and insignificant contact with the post before rolling out for a goal kick.
"Oh, no he\'s missed it," Jim said.
Kendra bit his lower lip in frustration after watching his shot go to waste like that.
"He lacked composure and that resulted in him sending the ball wide," Steve said.
\'I guess there was nothing to worry about after all.\' The goalkeeper said subconsciously as he got up from the floor.
"That was their chance to pull one back and it\'s gone to waste, they\'ve lost more time, they\'ll have to work harder to get back into the game now, it would have been so much easier if that shot had gone in." Jim expressed.
That penalty kick had been taken in the sixty-second minute and in the sixty-sixth minute now, Wolfsburg were leading another attack toward their opponent\'s goalpost after Carlos lost the ball to a strong but fair challenge.
Norman had made a few changes after that penalty kick miss and one of the people who had been taken off was Roland.
The midfielders helped Kendra work his way into the box with neat passes that Unique FC players just couldn\'t deal with.
The striker received the ball and quickly cut past Pirlo to get closer to the box and release a shot toward the goalpost but Dave was right there to block the shot.
"Saved!"
The rebound was sent rolling toward the right side and just the first time, it wasn\'t close enough for Dave to get to it fast enough.
Michael broke free from Jonas and was now racing toward the ball along with Aima who was heading there to stop him.
The winger got to the ball first as Dave dived toward the right side but that was a mistake as the winger ended up pushing the ball toward the middle of the goalpost, it wasn\'t intentional, but it worked for him.
There was nothing the goalkeeper could do as the ball rolled past the line into the goalpost.
"It\'s past the line and Wolfsburg have finally pulled one back!" Jim exclaimed as Michael quickly took off to the side and jumped up with a scream before crashing on the floor.
"For a friendly match, he sure is pulling up the celebration," Steve commented.
Dave stayed on the floor for a while before slowly sitting up to rest his back on the post.
\'Looks like I failed my personal quest.\'
