Chapter 426 Glow Up
[ System online ]
[ Quest completed ]

[ +1 attribute point received ]
[ +2 stat points received ]
\'Yeah, I didn\'t even get to see the quest rewards before the system shut down.\'
<Well, you\'re seeing it now, thoughts?>
\'Well, I mean I got an attribute point after not getting one for a while now so that\'s a win, to be honest, I don\'t really care that much for the other stats.\'
<Even the experience points?>
\'I guess I need the experience points to get to the level where I unlock that new skill so I guess it\'s still pretty important. You know what, I take that back, they\'re all important, I\'m getting the feeling I\'ll stop getting stat points from quests if I don\'t.\'
<If you think they\'re no longer important then why are you worried about not receiving them anymore?>
\'Because I still need them, they\'re not that important anymore but I still need them to get my energy level as high as possible and be able to use my attributes in matches where they are really needed without running out of energy.\'
<Hmm, good answer>
\'Glad you like it.\'
<Hey, stop acting like that, if I had human feelings you would be creeping me out now>
\'You\'re the one who creeps me out.\'
It was all jubilation on the pitch for the Uniques as they just flew past the group stage as the leaders.
No one expected this from them, everyone thought they were going to crash out hard, and even if they managed to make it out of the group stage, it would be by barely clinging on to second place.
But right now, they just proved everyone wrong by dominating the group with five straight wins, they could pretty much do anything against Villarreal now because that wouldn\'t change anything.
There were a lot of bigger teams in the other groups that thought they weren\'t that strong of a team, but after seeing what they just did in a group with Lazio, Villarreal, and West Ham United, they were surely going to be wary of them if they encountered them in the knockout phases.
Lazio players had to leave the pitch in disappointment, everything wasn\'t over for them though, they just had to beat West Ham and hope that Villarreal would lose or draw against Unique FC to make things easier for them because both teams were tied at seven points now with Lazio having a slightly higher goal difference.
"We did it, bro, we\'re through to the next stage at the top of the table," Mateo said in excitement before giving Dave a light punch on the shoulder.
"Yeah, and you did quite a lot to make that happen." Dave smiled.
"Yeah, that\'s true, but ultimately, it was all team effort." The winger replied with a bright smile on his face.
\'I haven\'t really seen him this happy after a match since we started playing together.\'
<Well, this is a big moment for most of you including him, moving to your first knockout round of a European competition, I can\'t really wait to see how far you guys can go>
\'Well, then you\'re in for quite a ride because we\'re going all the way.\'
<Well, that possibility is there considering your group stage performance>
To think that a team that struggled to make the qualifiers for the competition last season had already gone five matches without conceding a single goal against Lazio, Villarreal, and West Ham United was quite mind blowing and that was the main reason why all the teams still in the competition that had just witnessed their brilliance were starting to get a little worried.
If it was all attack with a shaky defense or vice versa then they would have something to leverage on but this team was quite well packed at least from what had been seen so far.
Their attack was a bit on the shaky side because of all the big chances they\'ve missed right from day one but you could not deny the brilliance of their defense and midfield.
Right at this moment, it seemed like Unique FC were right up there in the list of the favorites to win the competition.
After staying on the pitch to greet the fans and all that, it was finally time for the players to start making their way down the tunnel.
Some of them had already gone down but Dave and Mateo were part of the players who decided to stay a little longer on the pitch.
"Oh, there\'s the both of you."
The two were already getting close to the tunnel when they heard that voice from the side.
They knew who it belonged to, and when they turned to their left they caught sight of Emma who was heading toward them now, and of course Amber was with her.
"Oh, hey, sis," Mateo said before waving toward her but he didn\'t say anything to Amber.
She was pretty bent on not making any eye contact with him.
"Hey, honey," Dave said with a smile.
"Congratulations on topping the table, the Bilbeth Premier League is really proud of you."
"I think the congratulations can hold off until we actually get that trophy." The goalkeeper exacted.
"Being optimistic, I see," Emma remarked with a smile.
"Yeah, so what do you guys want? I know you\'re already done with the match interviews."
"Yeah, but we want to ask my little brother over there some questions." She replied before pointing the microphone she was holding at Mateo.
"Okay no problem, you can give the microphone to Amber."
"Huh?"
"Huh?"
"Huh?"
Amber was equally as shocked as the other two as she slowly raised her head to make sure she was still in the right place.
"You want her to be the one to ask you the questions?" Emma expressed just to make sure she heard him right.
"Yeah, that\'s what I said."
"Okay, here you go Amber, you know what to do." She said before handing the microphone over to her.
After taking the microphone from her senior, Amber took in a deep breath before turning her gaze to Mateo.
"Can we move a little over here?"
"Sure." The winger said before he began to move toward her.
After watching the two move a little distance away from them, Emma slowly turned her gaze to her husband.
"Did you do this?"
"I would love to take the credit but no." He replied before shaking his head.
"Who said I was going to give you credit?"
"You weren\'t?"
"No, but still, it\'s nice seeing that he\'s not mad at her anymore. Anyway, I have to go now, see you at home, don\'t be late."
"Yeah, see you at home."
After saying that, the goalkeeper turned and began to make his way down the tunnel.
\'Can I see my post-match rewards now?\'
<Sure>
[Post-match rewards ]
[ Five crucial saves: +50 exp ]
[ Goals conceded(0): +200 exp ]
[ Match rating: 8.0 ]
\'Looks like I did pretty well in contributing to this clean sheet.\'
<Well, you made pretty good saves without the system so yeah, worth it>
The interview didn\'t last for long as expected, and now that the camera was no longer pointing at them, Amber\'s energetic voice slowly died down.
Emma was just observing things from a distance with her arms crossed.
"Alright then, I guess I\'ll get going now," Amber said with an awkward expression on her face as she flung the microphone.
"Wait a second."
"Huh?" She replied before turning her gaze back to him.
"I\'m basically free tomorrow and since you will be working during the day, how about we grab dinner together?"
"You want to grab dinner with me tomorrow?" She had to repeat those because she was never really expecting him to say something like that.
"Yeah, I have a few things I have to say but I can\'t say them here right now." He specified. "So?"
"Sure, I\'ll grab dinner with you."
She really tried to control it but those words came out way too fast.
"Alright then, I\'ll speak to you later." The winger said before slowly walking past her.
And while he walked away, Amber tried to act normal but something entirely different was happening inside her head now.
